Special Guest: Go Ishii
Audio-only Version
There probably isn’t a tenkara angler in the U.S. that hasn’t at least entertained the idea of fishing in Japan (someday). As those who have made the journey will attest, it can be complicated and challenging, but not impossible (if you know the right way).
My guest Go Ishii is a preeminent tenkara figure in both Japan and the U.S., and in this episode, he walks us through the ins and outs of planning a trip, where and when to go, how permits work, and lots of insider advice on how to make the daydream a reality.
He’ll also explain why the next 5 years present an especially good window of opportunity for your visit.
If you’re planning a tenkara trip to Japan, you’ll get a lot of questions answered in this hour, and learn a few things that might surprise you!
About Go Ishii
Go Ishii is an international business consultant who has worked and fished extensively in both the Japan and U.S. He came to the U.S. to study at the age 12 and is fluent in both languages and cultures, making him a prominent ambassador between Japan and the West.
He’s studied directly under Tenkara no Oni and has also translated Japanese websites and literature into English. If you’ve done your tenkara research, you’ve probably read something he’s translated, a video he’s in, or a project he’s had a hand in. He recently moved back to Japan for work; however, still loves taking advantage of the unique fishing opportunities in the U.S.
