As a former fly fishing guide originally from Western New York, he moved to Colorado and became an early adopter of tenkara which perfectly suited the small, high altitude streams and lakes there. He has not fished a Western-style fly rod for trout since.
I love your kebari ties…..I need to learn how to tie….it’s hard to find kebari to buy as nice as these.
If you were to set up a basic fly tying kit for tenkara what would it be?
Hi Steven, here is a good place to start: A Beginner’s Guide to Fly Tying. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
I love this fly! I recently got some owner eyeless hooks as well so you can bet I’ll be trying this one out. I use some old fly line backing I had laying around for the eye though. Hopefully it hold up as well as the bead cord does.
Sean, it will. Actually, the backing is probably stronger than the bead cord.
Hi, Jason. I have tied Pheasant & Orange soft hackles for years and this combination of materials is my personal favorite. Thanks for sharing this tenkara sakasa kebari version!
FYI, I caught some nice browns this weekend on this pattern: https://www.tenkaratalk.com/2012/06/tenkara-on-the-fall-river/
