As a semi-minimalist who likes to combine outdoor sports (yeah, you guessed it: backpacking and fly fishing), I’m always on the lookout for multi-purpose gear to enhance my outings without adding a lot of bulk and weight. Enter the RIBZ front pack. Wear it up the trail to balance out your load and make your pack feel lighter, use it as a summit pack or for day hikes from base camp, or make it your fly vest on backpacking trips. The RIBZ front pack is a chameleon that can find a place in many of your various outdoor activities.

As a former fly fishing guide originally from Western New York, he moved to Colorado and became an early adopter of tenkara which perfectly suited the small, high altitude streams and lakes there. He has not fished a Western-style fly rod for trout since.
i had to get one of these. thanks jason.
Great Taylor, let us know how you like it.
HI Jason,
I really like these packs! Can you tell us which size you are wearing in the video? I know if I get the bigger size I will certainly fill it. For my purposes, I’m thinking a way to move to a smaller lighter pack and balance and organize gear more efficiently.
Hi Tony,
Yes, they’re pretty cool. In the video, I’m wearing the size regular (600 cubic inches). How much gear do you need to carry?
Thanks for your response, Jason!
I’m an UL backpacker wannabe, and a gear junkie.(in fact your gear closet has inspired me to make some changes to my current chaotic storage methods) I’m not sure how much gear would go in but if I could multi-purpose for camera, gloves, hat, snacks, food, gps and maybe hand held Ham radio and then use for fishing as you suggest after reaching base camp that would be ideal. I”m thinking of making my own simple lightweight backpack. This could be used to supplement carrying a smaller pack?
As I get older I find a 40-45 pound pack for 2-3 days is not as much fun as a 30 pound pack. BTW I just purchased my first Tenkara Rod and look forward to trying it out in a couple of weeks. Thanks for your super site and approach to sharing info.
Hey Tony, yeah, it could be a supplement and be multi-purpose as a fly fishing vest. If I were you, I’d get the regular size based on what you want to carry.
Thanks. I’ll put the regular size on my wish list.
Cheers!
