For those of you who couldn’t go fishing today, here’s a little Tenkara porn. At 1:57 you’ll see one method I use to store my like when moving between spots where it might be brushy. Sometimes, I wrap it around the rod instead. What do you do with your line when you have to move between spots?

http://tenkaratalk.comJason is an avid fly angler and backpacker. As a former fly fishing guide originally from Western New York, he moved to Colorado and became an early adopter of tenkara which perfectly suited the small, high altitude streams and lakes there. He has not fished a Western-style fly rod for trout since.
Jason,
What a great video. The Roaring River is definitely at the top of my list of places to go when I’m in Colorado next. (And I think I know the exact spot where you caught the Big T brownie).
I’ll admit I often use the same method to hold line when moving between spots, but the blue line winders will prevent the tangles that occasionally occur when I try to unwrap it from my hand like that, so I use them more and more (and in the end they probabaly save time and certainly save tippet).
Now I’m going to be thinking of Rocky Mountain National Park greenback cutthroats all day.
Chris, If you ever make it back to the Rockies, you’ve got a fishing buddy!
Awesome video!
Jason,
Excellent! Two of my favorite places to fish in the Park.
Jim
fantastic little piece of water you’ve got there.
One thing, Jason, would you please wet your hands before handling the fish. We’ve always been taught to wet our hands before handling a fish to reduce the likelihood of damage to them on release. Because dry hands remove a lot of slime, and the slime ocvering them is critical to their longer term health.
thanks again for the video. Season’s closed here in Aus and NZ , so I’m already in withdrawal. Only 10 more weeks to go till it re-opens. Watching video’s like yours from the northern hemisphere sure fires that itch I can’t scratch now for another few months.

Wow. I was in a local fly shop in the SF Bay Area recently and they were really talking up Tenkara. I’m going to have to give it a try. It looks like the perfect approach for small streams. Thanks for the great video, btw.
Hi Matt,
Thanks. Just out of curiosity, which shop was it?
Hi, Jason! This is just a great share. I would love to go fishing in Tenkara Fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park one day. By the way, I like your video presentation very much.

Jason, I enjoy your site very much. It’s both entertaining and informative. I fish Rocky Mountain Park and surroundings as well. On the video “Tenkara Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park” you identify the rod as a 12′ Iwana. I noticed that the bands are green on the rod that you used. Is that not an Ayu? Thanks for producing such a fine site.
Lew
Thanks Lew! And good catch. Thatis the original version of the Iwana which had green bands. Now they have brown bands.
